The eye test on E.J Emanuel is definitely promising. He is big, fast and has superior arm strength. In order to understand Emanuel as a QB you have to look at the film. Florida St posted an impressive 12-2 record in 2012 finishing strong with a 30-10 win over Northern Illinois in the Discovery Orange Bowl. Emanuel compared to his team had an average season statistically. He threw for 3392 yards on 263 completions of 387 attempts, giving him a 68% completion percentage on the season. Emanuel threw for 23 touchdowns to 10 interceptions which was slightly better than a 2:1 ratio. He only ran 103 times for 310yds a 3.0ypc average. Emanuel’s low rushing totals show’s that Florida State believed they could best utilize him as a pocket passer which is partly the reason for him being sacked 26 times. Emanuel has been inconsistent in his play as was evident in losses to N.C. State, Florida and a poor performance against Duke. Those teams’ defenses were able to make Manuel uncomfortable in the pocket and force throws. Manuel will need to show that he can be more consistent in order to make a strong showing in the NFL. Wherever Emanuel goes to in the draft will be getting a potential favorite in the NFL.
